Father and son, Jermaine Moore, 45, and Jayden Moore, 8, share a moment outside their home in Riverside, California on October 9, 2024. Moore is a caretaker for Jayden who has autism. For a majority of Jayden's life, Moore was a single father and said at times he felt helpless but knew he could not give up. He said being a caretaker has made him more empathetic of others and have a greater vision for his family as well as “set a table” for them after he is gone. For Moore, a football lover and high school coach, one of the greatest joys of being a father and caretaker is watching Jayden play sports after Moore thought he would not be able to. “It’s the little things that feel so big,” he said, wiping tears from his eyes.
